NFL Clears Eagles in Jalen Hurts Injury Handling Case

The NFL announced that it will not impose any penalties on the Philadelphia Eagles regarding their handling of quarterback Jalen Hurts’ health situation. Hurts, who had been cleared to play in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, is expected to miss the rest of the season necessitating treatment for blood clots in his lungs, including deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli. The league determined that the Eagles complied with the injury reporting policies.

Hurts’ medical condition was diagnosed after a superficial blood clot was found in his calf while he was in London for the game. Despite the diagnosis, Hurts played, attempting 40 passes in the Eagles’ 19-17 loss. Eagles coach Nick Sirianni expressed his trust in the medical team, emphasizing the health and well-being of players as the team’s priority.

Following the discovery of the blood clots, Hurts will undergo a treatment regimen involving blood thinners, expected to keep him out of play for at least three months. The Eagles have already placed Hurts on injured reserve following detailed consultations. Coach Sirianni, acknowledging the difficulty of playing without Hurts, expressed confidence in the backup quarterback while highlighting his deep concern for Hurts’ recovery.
