JJ McCarthy Named Starting QB for Giants Against Texans

The New York Giants have chosen JJ McCarthy as their starting quarterback for their upcoming game this Sunday against the Houston Texans. Coach John Harbaugh made the announcement on Wednesday, explaining the decision was made to enhance the team’s chances to win. McCarthy, who will be taking over from Jameis Winston, had a standout performance in the last quarter of the previous game, throwing for 243 yards and leading the team to three scoring drives.

Harbaugh faced a tough choice between McCarthy and Winston, who has started the past four games. Although Winston has been filling in for injured starter Jaxson Dart, McCarthy’s recent play tipped the scale. Harbaugh shared that he communicated the decision in one-on-one meetings with his quarterbacks, deeming a public announcement unnecessary. He noted that McCarthy’s timing for the position feels right.

McCarthy expressed confidence in his improved prospects for success compared to his previous tenure with the Minnesota Vikings. Harbaugh also highlighted that McCarthy’s ability to execute more dynamic plays could rejuvenate their struggling run game. McCarthy’s performance in practice, particularly his additional practice with receivers like Malik Nabers, underscored his readiness for the role.
